Shadows Past

The shadows of the past
Come back to haunt you
Talk of a war and dying
Lives lost and the crying
Weeping for loved ones lost
A war at any cost.
Questions from old heros ask
We went to war, it was our task
Youth lost, I became a man
Holding ground, we should have ran
I fought for peace
In this world, you know
Step lightly before you stand
War itself has never been grand
To die in a field, you die alone
Those returning, return on their own
A call for peace, what can this mean
A mothers child, has been.
She watched him as he slept at night
In his dreams, relived the fight
She would protect him, her precious son
But shadows past, are not done.
